Custom Printed Coasters

One of the challenging thing for me is to play and maximize the use of paper materials… I’ve been thinking on how paper can be more practical, useful and sturdy all at the same time.

Then while I was drinking my coffee and used my corkboard coaster, I’ve thought why not try a printed coasters instead. There came an idea but the challenged was how to make it reusable. Eventually, I was able to figure out how to resolved it and viola… I printed it on a 280gsm coated paper then cold laminated so it can now be reused anytime.

We can use some photos or simply add the names of your guests to make it more personal. Nonetheless, it is another way to impress your guests buy not spending that much plus it totally practical, whether you’re in your home or offices, right?

DIY: Teabag and Cookie bag

Last 2 weeks ago, I celebrated my birthday and I prepared some lovely and simple souvenirs so my friends can take home with them. I’m always a fond of repacking things, so what I did was I repacked some tea and cookie and made it more customized.

Here are the things you’ll need:

• Tea bags and Cookie { I used Twinings green tea and Quacker Oats Chocolate Chip}

• Small Glassine or Brown paper bags

• Rubber Stamps and Stamp pad {my stamps were bought from my travels abroad, but you can simply buy thru Etsy or from your local craft stores}

Printable Tea Bag label

How to do it:

1. Get your fave rubber stamps and stamped it on a glassine/brown paper bag. I placed it at the bottom part so it won’t be covered when it’s folded. I used thank you stamp for the cookie and the merci rabbit for the tea.

2. Print and cut the Printable Tea Bag label. I also added a placecard on the print or you can use it as a gift tag as well. Handwritten with notes or your menu or guests’ names.

3. Then replaced the label from the teabag and put it inside the glassine bag without the original packaging. For the cookie, simply put a single cookie inside the glassine bag.

And this is how it looks… this is definitely great for tea parties or intimate gatherings. I placed it beside the plates so my guests can see it right away.

DISCLAIMER: This template is for personal use only and not for commercial. Flower image is a clipart and all tea bags and cookies are repacked. If you want to use this DIY, kindly link back from this post.

DIY: Dressing up a Bottle

Let’s start of this year with a simple DIY to compensate my absence. Tomorrow I’ll be leaving for Manila together with the Green Tomato team to join a bridal fair in SMX. It’s our very first time to participate in fair outside my turf, and I’m quite anxious actually. In preparation for the bridal fair, I will bring a small bottle to display some of my samples, and this is how I dressed it up.

What you will need:

• Scissors and Adhesive Tape

• Yarn or Twine or maybe ribbon

• Wrapper {you may also use tissue paper}

• Bottle

Step 1: Encase the bottle with the wrapper and locked it with the tape.

Step 2: Tie the yarn around the bottle and ribbon it. You can add more layers or a different  yarn color. Contrasting colors may also be nice.

And the output… still simple but more attractive.

What I’ve plan to do with it.

You can use this as a centerpiece for your wedding or simply put a flower and display it in your house. If you’re reading this and you’re from Manila, please do drop by in our booth and would love to meet you.

Choosing a Wedding Theme

As I’ve said from my post about Wedding Motif, you can go away with wedding themes. Whenever I asked my bride clients what’s their wedding theme, some would normally say they don’t have one. Even I wouldn’t probably have one either.

However, this can definitely add some drama to your special day. Even so, choosing your wedding theme is not easy. That’s why couples opt not to have one instead. This is also to simplify the preparation. However, we can actually find little ways to make the planning uncomplicated.

Here are the keynotes on how to decide in choosing your wedding theme:

Find your personalities or what you both love.

– Some couples correlate their theme according to their personalities. This is one thing you can consider so you won’t have to over-think at all. Let’s say, both of you loves to travel, or you wanted to travel the whole world together someday, a travel theme is definitely ideal for you.

– You can also use an event from your relationship that meant something for both of you. Maybe you met on a beach. Then, why not have a beach wedding, right?

– If you have decided from this keynote, themes based from your personalities are commonly used. But nonetheless, this is your special day, regardless it’s common or uncommon themes, it is still special for you. I’ll give few examples of the themes based on your personalities or what you love:

 • Add a little spice.

– On the other side, couples tend to choose an outrageous or out of the blue themes. But somehow, it has nothing to do with their personalities. And this is a one way ticket for them to try something different. Although, it may have something to do with the couple but these themes are quite unusual.

• Use the familiar.

– Oftentimes, couples used the familiar things we saw in our everyday life. This is actually easy and cost effective since technically, we don’t need to exaggerate the preparation.

 • Your motif can be your theme.

– We sometimes confuse ourselves with a lot of things. Instead of still thinking about your theme, you neglect that you can use your motif as your theme as well. Using colors can also make your life easier. Let’s say, you really couldn’t decide which theme suits you best. Or otherwise, you don’t want to have a theme. Then simply use your color scheme.

I hope by now, I was able to help you decide on what theme to use for your wedding. Or at least by giving you these keynotes, it made you decide not to have one instead. Honestly, wedding themes are not for everyone. By eliminating what you don’t like is a good practice to know what you truly want to have. Sometimes, sad as it may be, it’s easier for us to point out our dislikes. But on the contrary, through this, our ideas may become clear.

As I may suggest, before you start buying the materials or anything for the preparation, focus on what you have decided. Along the way, other themes may definitely distract and tempt you on buying the unnecessary things. Having a focus for your day will definitely keep you from over spending.

Choosing a Motif

Hello again and I’m glad you’re back for a wedding 101. So, let’s talk about your motif… since this will be one of your biggest dilemma during your wedding preparation. Although, I’m not saying this is essential, but you wouldn’t want your wedding day to look like a circus with all the different shades of colors that doesn’t correlate with each other. There’s also a big possibility that it will not look very nice at all.

Often times, theme and motif are mislead. Let’s clarify it first… Motif is a design, pattern, according to my Mac dictionary. And recurrent thematic element based from Merriam-Webster. In wedding’s term, it pertains to your color. And next to it, follows your Theme which is the style of your wedding, like a vintage style or garden theme.

Okay, so let’s talk about wedding motif… in my opinion, you can go away with theme, but please at least have a motif. I’ll give some keynotes why it would be helpful for you.

• It can help you decide faster for every detail of your wedding.

 – Having a motif can make your decisions easier. Imagine telling your decorator to set-up your reception area without giving her/him a motif. A florist without any basis what flower colors to use. You’ll be lucky if they have a good taste and know how to match different colors. Otherwise, your giving them a hard time and your area will look like a rainbow land.

– Choosing a motif is not easy though, but remember the mood board I suggested? Go for the color that attracts you most from your cut-out photos. It doesn’t have to be your favorite color when you were still a kid, but choose the one that you like best as of the moment. Choosing a specific color helps you decide for your entourage’s gown, flowers, decorations and invitations too.

 • Feel your wedding.

Photo from The Bridal Lounge

– My point here is… before choosing your color, try to feel your wedding first and know what kind of feeling you wanted. Do you like a formal, casual or fun? Light colors doesn’t really say your having a formal wedding. Formal normally goes with dark colors. Then bright ones also give a different feel. Now, set the mood first then it would be easy to eliminate the other colors to choose from.

• Consider your location.

– Can you imagine using green colors on a nature location? Yes, of course, you can use that, but this doesn’t separate your table cloth from the grass. Doesn’t mean you’re having an outdoor theme you’ll also match it with nature colors as well. But if you really wanted too, then at least try a different shade maybe.

 • Color of the year can be helpful in deciding.

Photo from Pretty Chiky

– Wedding magazines normally point out the wedding colors, but be careful with this one. You wanted something unique for your wedding, right? Now, if you have girlfriends who’s getting married on the same year and wanted to be part of the “wedding of the year” fad and she used the “color of the year”, then this will not set your wedding apart from them. Technically, you’ll have common friends attending and the first one who used that color will be lucky to have the originality. So, you’ll just be a copycat. This may be optional of course. What if that color is really your favorite one, right? Who am I to stop you from using it. But this is just a mere suggestion if you wanted to have a unique wedding… then don’t follow the trend.

• Play around with different shades.

Photo from Craven Maven

– As much as possible don’t use one shade of color alone for the whole set-up. A couple used one shade of red for their wedding, and the photos didn’t look good. From the carpet, to the flowers, table cloth, ceiling works and the bridesmaids gown. Can you imagine how it looked like? One color is great, just learn how to play with it. You don’t need to add a different shade just to follow through, but you can use lighter to darker shades of one color. This way, you’ll have a little contrast to your photos. If your motif is green, use the different shades for green. Adding a lighter or darker shade still emphasizes your green motif but in a subtle way.

– Review the color combinations that matches one color from the other.

  Add some white.

Photo from Tahoe Unveiled

– I always love simplicity. You know the saying less is more, right? Well its definitely true! Adding white to your motif will neutralize the set-up. Now, if you don’t want to play around with different shades, white can be your friend. Let’s say you wanted to use plum, and using lighter and darker shades are not considered plum anymore. So white can really be of help for your set-up. Using white will also emphasize more your motif. But make sure to use for an accent only.

– Gold or silver is also used for a secondary color option. Often times brown too.

As I’ve said before, your wedding doesn’t have to be expensive. You just have to know what you wanted so you’ll know how to present it properly, and having a Motif can really help make your wedding beautiful as you wanted it to be.

I also saw a site that might help you in deciding what motif to choose from by giving meanings to its colors. Favor Ideas’ post about this might give you an idea how to choose it right.

Furthermore, whichever motif you choose, just feel it and love it. Few years after, you’ll be looking at those photos again. So just imagine how you wanted to see your wedding by then.
