DIY: Souvenir loop-bag

I just came back from Taiwan and I’m totally overloaded from all the cute staffs there. I wish I can say I went shopping with clothes like a usual girl would do. But instead, I got bankrupt from a bookstore… yup! from a bookstore… and literally drooled over from all the books, craft tools, lomo cams and everything else a craft girl could ever dreamed of.

But before I’ll show you what I bought and where we went, let me share a DIY project for my “pasalubong” loop-bag. Since I’m feeling crafty from my trip, I gave my simple present a little twist using my newly bought stamps.

Letter Stamps I bought from Micia.

Here are the things you needed:

Letter Stamps

Stamp pad {I used color black}

Glassine paper bag {any size will do}.

I used letter stamps so I can custom the bags according to their names. You can also use other stamps to decorate it.

I filled it with Taiwan delicacies like Pineapple cake and Mochi.

These loop bags will be given to my Yellow Hauz crew and Artisan staffs.Hope to see how you did yours…

DIY: Payroll made fun

When I was still working in a company before, I get excited every 15th and 30th of the month… because that means… it’s payroll time. But now that I have my own company, payroll doesn’t excite me much, hahaha {I’m sure if you’re your own boss you’ll feel the same way}.

Even if I’m an Accounting graduate, numbers give me allergies, hahaha. Aside from computing the details for payroll, those ugly serious looking time sheets give me headache. So, I made a solution to this uncreative dilemma I have…

I made and printed my own payroll form with a chic design. Now, I wouldn’t have to write on those ugly serious forms again, and all I have to deal with is just those numbers.

If you feel the same way, I’ll be happy to share my payroll form with you. But since I’m still in Gensan, I’ll be back again later to post the downloadable form.

UPDATED: You can now download the payroll form here.

Wedding Invitation: Reco + Vera

I wanted to be a doctor when I was still young, or maybe that was a popular occupation when you were just a kid. “When I grow up, I’ll be a doctor…”, a common phrase in school. I don’t even know why, when we never had a doctor in the family, haha. So, I did not become a doctor, nor nurse, but I’m so glad I did not! But I had a privilege to design a wedding invitation for a couple that are both doctors.

The bride, Dra. Vera, wanted something big than the usual invitations {that’s easy…} and she also wanted it with a thick board {okay wait, can we go back on the easy part? haha}. Seriously, It was easy for me to visualized her idea since she showed me a sample of her ideal invitation. But making it on board was the challenging part, but I love challenges.

Now, my work was to integrate her idea and her theme to the invitation she wanted… not that easy, but I like it when my mind was being challenged.

Here we go… Wrapping the board on the exact print was really not that easy but the creasing part must be mastered. Getting the right color {baby pink and blue} was also hard, my printer needed a little tweaking or probably needed to be replaced {oh please no! hehe}.

The inner paper, where all the details were written were laser printed but the couple’s names must be embossed… now that was really the challenged.

Another challenged solved… thank you my dear clients for giving me the opportunity to try something new with my craft.

Dessert Buffet set-up

I’ve been meaning to make something like a dessert buffet before, however, I couldn’t find the occasion or at least the right time to set it up. Gladly, last July, Apple {a friend who works from Pearl Farm Beach Resort} invited me to join their bridal fair. Goody! What a great timing.

So being a frustrated illustrator {hihi}, I try to visualize my plan and draw my concept first. I used to do this before for my invitations, but I guess, when you’re used to it, ideas come on the spot. So I seldom draw my concept nowadays.

Anyway, so here’s what I visualized… Long table covered with a nice cloth with same cloth used for background. Then filled with good sweet stuffs and wrap or label them with printed papers. It was actually simple but finding a theme for it was a bit challenging. Then I remember the party paper details we’ve been working on ready for the market. Wow, hitting two birds with one stone… setting-up a dessert buffet and using my Paperie items.

This was the actual dessert buffet based from my illustration. I made some changes based on materials available but nonetheless, for me it was a success and pretty.

This Just Married banner will be ready for sale on my etsy shop and studio. We also have buntings with the same theme, just like the one hanged on the table.

I love how simple yet enticing these chocolate bars looked like. I’ve been thinking of putting a monogram on it so couples can opt for custom design as well. However, I don’t know what initials to put for the sake of our display, that’s why it ended up as blank and plain patterns instead, hehe.

Oh how I love looking at these cupcake flags? Yes, you can stick ‘em to any pastries you like, instead of cupcakes.

Here are the other details… labels for candy jars, food name and for bottled drinks as well.

This is my favorite though… simple yet attractive. A craft bag loop bag with a thank you card and a fork. You can put a cupcake or mini cakes inside as your party souvenir. And it’s ready to eat.

We don’t normally have a backyard wedding here in Davao but I just made a sample for lemonade cups and straws with flags, to give the couples an idea about it.

I was excited and a little nervous at the same time before I set this up since it was my first time. I’m not sure if it will come up out the way I imagined it. But I gladly it did. Thank you Occasions for lending me those beautiful vases and glass stands. And of course to my sister, Sandy for all the other cake stands {even though you didn’t know about it though, hehe}.

What do you think about my dessert buffet? I don’t know about you, but I’m heading now to our kitchen to find something sweet, because this sure made me crave for it… hihi.

Would love to hear your thoughts, leave me a comment… =)

Graphika Manila 2011

I’m back from my home town and with a big smile on my face. I just love attending conventions. Although, I went there alone and didn’t meet any new friends, it was truly a breather for me. On the contrary, I got to know new inspiring people, and that’s good as meeting new people, right?

So here’s how my weekend went… I flew to Manila on Friday, so I can still do some window shopping and chill a little. In the afternoon, I went to Divisoria, all by myself. Bought some relevant stuffs for Artisan and not so relevant ones, like clothes, lol.

Then at night, I get to meet my friends from Davao and we had dinner at Humphrey’s Wings at MetroWalk. I wish I could have spent the night with them a little longer but, I have to wake up early the next day.

And so the next day had finally come… Graphika Manila 2011. The event was held on the same place as last year, at SMX convention center. And boy can you believe how many delegates we were… 3000 people! Yes, you read that right, 3000 not 300, can you imagine it?

There were 6 speakers, mixed with foreign and local artists. So we’ve heard from 27+20 -a design agency with very creative ideas. I just love how they come about with their documentary and music video; Dan Matutina -an Illustrator who really inspired me with the way he worked. Landry -design and animation studio in California. Mike Friolo -he designs Manny Pacquiao’s garments and other more big clients. Seph Mayol -designer/developer based in Cebu. I like the thought that he is promoting local designers from Visayas and Mindanao. And I love his motion graphics that he’s planning to use as a window display. Lastly, from Weta Digital -the company who’s responsible for the movie Avatar.

Those speakers were just amazing and inspiring. You would truly appreciate your talent as a graphic designer or in this kind of field. Although, it was not easy, but it gives you a stepping stone to aim high.

Anyway, here’s my favorite part… the goodie bag, hahaha. Oh, they also had a school partner during the event, the CIIT. Now, I’m really thinking of getting a design degree.

I can’t wait again for next year’s event. I’m sure it gets better and better. Although, I hope next time, I’ll meet new friends, hehe. It would be just nice to know people with the same interests.

Anyhooo… how about you? How was your weekend? I would love to hear about it… =)
